Dense Mojave Tortoise Habitat Threatened by Solar Project

Loggerhead shrikes and verdins called out in the creosote and catclaw acacia as we walked up a large fan. Recent rains in the Lucy Gray Mountains to the east had just been drenched by monsoonal cloudbursts, wetting the numerous washes with floods. Kangaroo rat tracks hopped across the moist sand. The casinos of Primm, Nevada, buzzed with tourists far to the west, but the only sounds we heard were birds.

We came here to check a new renewable energy proposal for a vast array of photovoltaic panels that would be placed on thousands of acres here ironically two hours south of Las Vegas where so many rooftops remain barren of such solar panels. But this fan was anything but barren.
